Zambian experts are conducting a five-day workshop on soya bean farming at Katima Mulilo Correctional Facility to help Namibia improve food self-sufficiency and inmate rehabilitation.
Namibia and Zambia Correctional Services have enhanced cooperation in agricultural production, focusing on soya bean farming. The initiative follows a 2025 resolution from the Zambia-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission in Defence and Security. Zambian experts are sharing practical knowledge through a technical workshop at Katima Mulilo Correctional Facility in Namibia's Zambezi Region.
The five-day programme aims to exchange expertise and evaluate the feasibility of introducing soya bean cultivation at Katima Mulilo and Kaoko-Otavi Correctional Facilities. Zambia has made significant progress in soya bean production, managing over 55,000 hectares of agricultural land, and seeks to support Namibia in adopting best practices to boost food provision and inmate skills development.
